What is the ethnic /racial make-up of the school? NWC has a very diverse student population. Our students’ ethnicity's include: African American, Bi-racial, Latin American, Asian, Native American Indian and Caucasian.
Does NWC participate in the Milwaukee Parental School Choice Program (PCP)? Yes, please call the school for application information at (414-352-6927).
Does NWC offer busing? No. NWC has a parent contract with the Milwaukee Public Schools. A PARENT CONTRACT will provide financial reimbursement directly to our school families in return for providing your own transportation. The reimbursement amount for 2011-12 was $684 per FAMILY. We are told to expect a slight increase for the 2012-13 school year. THIS REIMBURSEMENT WILL BE GIVEN DIRECTLY TO SCHOOL FAMILIES, NOT NWC. Payments would be mailed in June of 2013. In order to qualify for this reimbursement, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must live within the current transportation boundaries. If you are currently eligible for busing, you should qualify for this reimbursement. Our transportation boundaries have not changed. ALL DECISIONS REGARDING ELIGIBILITY ARE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOL.
- Your child must attend NWC during the 2012-13 school year.
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOUR CHILD MUST BE REGISTERED AT NWC BY JUNE 20, 2012. IF YOU REGISTER AFTER THIS DATE, YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT.
Are all the students Catholic? While Northwest Catholic is first and foremost a Catholic school, not all of our students are Catholic. We focus on providing a faith-based education that prepares our students to have high standards and to be the best leaders they can be in their community. NWC students participate in religion classes and weekly student-prepared Masses. Our non-Catholic families tell us they feel very welcome and chose NWC because of our high standards and strong academics.
Does NWC offer students specialty classes? Yes, we offer Art, Music, Physical Education, Library and Computer Technology.
Does NWC offer any support for children with differentiated learning needs? Full-time licensed Learning Consultants work with identifying academic and behavioral needs of children. Additionally, they provide either accelerated learning opportunities for those students demonstrating a need for a challenge. We provide academic and one-on-one support for students struggling with their grade-level material.
Does Northwest Catholic utilize any new technology? NWC has Mobile MAC labs and Smart boards for teachers and students to use at each campus. NWC is currently seeking grant opportunities to continue expanding its technology education. Technology tools are integrated into classroom teaching and parent communications.
Is NWC School a safe and secure environment? At both campuses all doors are locked and a camera system is in place for admission into the building. Each campus has a large private playground. In addition, all staff and volunteers must complete a 3-hour nationally recognized Safeguarding All of God’s Children training seminar as well a state and national background check.
What are the qualifications of the teachers? All NWC teachers have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree. Approximately 1/3 of our teachers have a Master’s Degree and several have pursued education beyond a Master’s Degree. All of our teachers are licensed by the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
What is the average tenure of the teachers? The average tenure of our teachers is 13 years. Our teachers are passionate about educating our students and are enthusiastic about learning new teaching approaches and new technology.
Does NWC offer breakfast or hot lunch? NWC offers both breakfast and lunch. NWC participates in the Federal Hot Lunch program and prepares all its delicious and nutritious meals on-site by NWC kitchen staff. Breakfast is served from 7:10 to 7:30 AM. Currently, the breakfast fee is $1.00 per child or .40 for reduced qualified. Families who qualify are encouraged to participate in the federally funded free/reduced hot lunch program.
Hot lunch is offered daily with monthly menus posted on our website.
Does NWC provide after school care? Yes, NWC’s on-site after-school care qualifies for the W2 program. Our state-licensed After School Care is open Monday-Friday from 2:45 PM until 6:00 PM on school days.
Do NWC students wear uniforms? Yes, all NWC students must wear approved school uniforms. We believe wearing uniforms help promote a sense of unity and pride in our school. Wearing uniforms set the tone for the strong academic atmosphere of our school. Details of uniform requirements can be found in our Parent Student handbook.

Does NWC offer athletics? Yes, NWC has a long-established athletics program with a no-cut policy. NWC offers basketball, volleyball, soccer and tennis. There is fee associated with participation. This fee varies in cost from sport to sport.
Does NWC offer any extra-curricular programs? Yes, NWC offers, a lavish spring musical, Youth Choir, Children’s Choir, Band, Chess Cub, Lego League, Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, and Homework Club.
Are parents involved in the school? Yes, NWC has a very active Home and School Association and Athletics Association. Additionally, parents are welcome to volunteer on a variety of levels and are invited to participate in school events, school masses, open house, and encouraged to attend school conferences and maintain open communication with teachers.
Where can I find school rules and policies? Each year the Parent Student Handbook is updated and is provided to each family the start of each year.
